Abstract :
Despite the advent of bigger and better solid-state devices, the market for electronic valves and tubes is still significant and, indeed, is showing some signs of gradual expansion. Many companies, however, which made a reasonable business of selling tubes a few years ago have been forced out of the market place by very hard economic pressures. But the English Electric Valve Company Limited not only has survived but also has been increasing its market share in the field of professional electron tubes. One of the reasons for this, according to ROBERT COULSON, Managing Director of EEV, is that his company believes in recruiting the best engineers, motivating them correctly, and giving them, as far as possible, the best and most up-to-date equipment with which to work in developing new ideas and products. JOHN COOPER, Editor of Electronics & Power, visited EEV´s headquarters at Chelmsford, Essex, recently and spoke to Mr. Coulson about his company and about his own ideas on management and the best use of resources, both human and material, in Britain´s industry
