Abstract :
The mysterious explosion of three large oil tankers in 1969 would not appear to have any connection with the pecullar happenings in an isolated Northumberland Colliery in 1840. However, there might have been no explosions had the dangers of the electrification of wet steam and high-pressure water been better appreciated by those responsible for the cleaning out of large oil tanks
