Abstract
A fixed-point approximation for estimating various performance measures in cellular mobile networks with mixed services and platform types is considered. To maintain handoff priority and access regulation, it is assumed that the system operates under a trunk-reservation policy. The correlations among cells due to handoff traffic are expressed by rate equations and the distribution of the number of busy channels in each cell is approximated by a one-dimensional recursion. This leads to a set of nonlinear fixed-point equations which can be solved by repeated substitutions. The computational complexity and memory requirements of the proposed algorithm are linear so that it can be used to estimate performance measures of the cellular mobile network even when the system size is large. The proposed approximations are tested on a number of simple examples. Numerical results for networks consisting of five and seven cells are given. The comparison between approximation and simulation results shows that the proposed fixed-point approximation is fairly accurate
