Abstract :
SONET network management features are described, covering the layered overhead structure, performance monitoring, maintenance signals, orderwire channels, user channels, and data communication channels (DCCs). Basic deployment and network management concerns are examined. These concerns relate to midspan meet management, intraoffice DCC connectivity, and integration of SONET elements in existing management architectures. The topic of mediation functions is introduced to provide a solution to some of the integration concerns.<>
