Abstract
The propagation and radiation characteristics of a rectangular hybrid mode horn partially filled with a dielectric material are theoretically investigated. It is demonstrated that this horn, which belongs to a class called dielcore horns, exhibits high isolation between orthogonal modes over a substantial bandwidth. The mechanical simplicity and potentially low production cost, means that it constitutes an alternative to broadband horns with an elliptical beam and low cross-polarisation. The horn may find applications as a feed in radar and satellite antennas with elliptical reflectors and as elements in array antennas
