Abstract :
In addition to reducing acoustic noise and high-frequency torque ripple, the presence of skew in an induction motor produces an axial variation in the saturation in the machine. The authors present a technique for including the effect of this variation in the calculation of the equivalent-circuit parameters. Results indicate that the axial variations in saturation due to skew can have a considerable impact on the starting performance of an induction motor
