Abstract :
A flexible and extendable satellite broadcasting system for the future and a prototype integrated receiver with a new demodulation LSI for the system are introduced. We named such a broadcasting system in any broadcasting channel ISDB (integrated services digital broadcasting). Taking into account the demand for high quality pictures in the multimedia era, great importance should be attached to achieving digital multi-channel HDTV transmission using one satellite transponder. This system employs TC8PSK (trellis coded 8-PSK) as the main modulation scheme to attain a high information bit rate in the 12 GHz band satellite channel. Other modulation schemes can be selected. The ISDB transmission system should also take into account a flexible combination of transmission schemes that meet broadcasters demands, that is high spectral efficiency and reliability against degradation of the received signal under heavy rainfall. The parameters of the transmission scheme can be varied by introducing TMCC (transmission and multiplexing configuration control)
