Abstract :
We propose a new approach for generating coherent microwaves in a nonlinear photonic crystal through optical rectification. In a photonic crystal, the reciprocal vector and dispersion of the group velocity can be used to both compensate for the velocity mismatch between the generated microwave and the pump light. We show that coherent microwave radiation from kilohertz to terahertz can be generated through this approach by designing a suitable structure
