Abstract :
Brushless DC drives are widely used in hybrid electric vehicles and automotive applications as motor or generator due to their high efficiency, high power density, ease of control, and lower maintenance. In this paper, the control of brushless DC generator has been studied using direct power control (DPC) algorithm. Since in the conventional drive systems, generated electrical power is transferred to the DC-side batteries through uncontrolled diode rectifier, a great deal of energy will be lost. Moreover, in automotive applications where the speed of the wheels is variable, a constant DC-link voltage is essential irrespective of speed and load. On this way, to control of delivered power from brushless DC generator and regulation of the battery´s voltage, a controller based of direct power control algorithm is employed. Theoretical analysis and performance of the developed controller is confirmed via simulation at different speed and under various torque disturbances.
