Abstract :
A novel approach for solving lossless planar dielectric waveguide equations is presented. The approach calculates the modal indices of multilayer dielectric waveguides with arbitrary index distribution by adaptation of the mode counting rule. Our numerical results show that this method can calculate the modal indices of all modes in any arbitrary order with high precision.
