Abstract
To the visitor, the extremes of richness and poverty and of prestige high technology and primitive agriculture found in the Third World may come as a shock. Engineers taking up contracts in these areas forsake home comforts and may put themselves at the whim of unstable political regimes. But what impact can they hope to have?
