Abstract :
The global adoption of IEEE 802.3 EPON represents a natural outgrowth of the all-Ethernet strategy favored by an increasing number of network operators. This article describes how the IEEE P1904.1 Service Interoperability in Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (SIEPON) specifications and the IEEE-ISTO ICAP SIEPON conformance program work together to help operators efficiently introduce new equipment and new IP-based services into stable yet readily extensible EPON networks.
