Abstract
A theory for the high frequency characteristic impedances of a conductor located above a lossy earth is presented. In the past, studies of overhead power transmission lines have relied on Carson´s circuit based theory to determine the characteristic impedances, this being a low frequency theory which may be inaccurate when studying high frequency applications.
