Abstract :
Communications over Power lines (PLC) constitute an efficient technology for home area networking communication scenarii. Power lines are however not really designed to ease the propagation of HF communication signals, making the PLC channel a hostile transmission channel showing various types of perturbations and electrical impairments phenomena. This article explores the behavior of the indoor narrowband power lines communications. The electrical load, the transmission line length, the network topology and their impacts on narrowband PLC are studied in the first part of this article. The second part of the study is dedicated to the investigation of the domestic appliances impedance and their effect on the power line channel and to emphasize about the impact of the communication system access impedance on the quality of transmission in the band of [9kHz-500kHz].
