Abstract
A heuristic contour triangulation method is proposed for reconstructing a facet model from a set of wire-frame contours. The proposed band partitioning algorithm (BPA) compensates for the disadvantages of optimal and heuristic methods, and produces an improved reconstructed surface. Furthermore, the maximum deviation criterion in span selection prohibits drastic error propagation in the surface definition procedure. Experimental results show that the proposed method is very stable and efficient, making it suitable for a wide range of applications
