Abstract :
The increasing growth in the transmission of digital data over telephone lines has led to a steady rise in the number and type of modems available. Modems were originally free-standing, mains-powered units placed between the computer and telephone equipment but gradually the trend has drifted towards, first, plug-in card modems and, now, CMOS-based single-chip modems
