Successful bidirectional transmission of 80 channels each carrying a 40 Gbit/s ETDM signal over 40 km of standard singlemode fibre is reported for the first time. To the authors´ knowledge, the overall data rate of 3.2 Tbit/s is the highest aggregate capacity demonstrated over a single fibre
