Abstract :
An improved histogram-based technique for estimating the bit error probability (BEP) of an NRZ-coded optical signal is introduced. At 10 Gbit/s, BEP estimation results are compared with those obtained via error counting for various levels of signal distortion and optical signal-to-noise ratio, both for synchronous and asynchronous sampling
