Abstract
A novel planar optical polarisation splitter for simultaneous extraction of both TE and TM modes is proposed and demonstrated. The device, designed according to the principle of the polarisation-dependent direction of energy flow near Bragg incidence, consists of a periodic waveguide section joined by straight tapered transitions to smooth regions. Experimentally, a minimum extinction ratio of 17 dB was achieved
