Abstract :
The term ¿Metadyne¿ is defined as including various forms of dynamo having additional brush-arms intermediate between the usual brush-arms. The first section of the paper explains the special properties of such machines, especially as sources and users of constant current, or in obtaining special relationships between the current supplied to a load and the voltage across it. The equations for the calculation of the currents and fluxes of such machines are given, and the functions of various stator windings are explained. The second section of the paper deals with some of the most important applications of the metadyne to traction problems. A number of equipments which have been installed are described in some detail, and schematic diagrams of connections for these equipments are given.
