  • Abstract
The process of pulse self-compression in an optical fiber is theoretically investigated on the basis of exact N-soliton solutions of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS). It is shown that the degree of compression can be approximately N times higher than in the previously considered case of N/cosh-type initial conditions. The evolution of the spectra of N-soliton pulse is also considered
