Abstract :
Technological advances in the East Asian nations of Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore are surveyed, focusing on how they are striving to adjust their strategies to a changing market and looking to new technologies to give them competitive edges. In addition to consumer electronics, microelectronics, and computers, where they already have an established lead, the areas of automotive electronics, manufacturing automation, telecommunications, aerospace and military, medical electronics, power and energy, and transportation are examined.<>
