Abstract :
The use of statistical thinning and quantized element weights to produce low sidelobe patterns using large circular array apertures is investigated. The major results of the analysis show that by using either of several thinning algorithms it is possible to obtain substantial sidelobe reduction by a combination of statistical thinning and the use of discrete amplitude quantization. The paper includes generalized formulas for sidelobe level, EIRP (effective isotropic radiated power), and curves to show how these parameters vary as a function of the design sidelobe level for the selected Taylor pattern
