Abstract :
In this paper, we propose a FTTx system using an active wavelength selective switch (WSS) incorporated with a dynamic wavelength and bandwidth allocation (DWBA) in order to improve the efficiency in bandwidth consumption of the FTTx based on wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON). Under the control by DWBA, appropriate numbers of coarse wavelength division multiplexed (CWDM) wavelengths on different time intervals are generated under the dynamic requests for different data rates from different subscribers. The computer simulation results, based on data rate of 10 Gbps per wavelength, demonstrate the feasibility of the transmission of 160-Gbps signal (16 CWDM wavelengths: 1271-1571 nm) to a single subscriber over the maximum reaches of 55.2 km with FEC (BER= 10-4), and 47.6 km without FEC (BER 10-9).
