Abstract :
This paper presents a modified three-phase average current method, which deals with IGBT open circuit fault detection and localization in a PWM voltage source inverter (VSI) fed induction motor drives. This method is suitable for not only single IGBT fault, but also two IGBTs faults in different bridges. Firstly, an improved algorithm was used to detect the faulty bridges. Second, according to the value of the average current in the faulty arm, the IGBT open circuit fault detection and localization can be achieved. The proposed technique is developed and implemented in a dSPACE based vector control induction motor drive system. The improved algorithm is introduced and experimental results confirm the proposed method.
