  • Abstract
This issue´s Trends and Controversies department takes a look at social intelligence and cultural awareness. Hsinchun Chen begins by describing the work he is doing on the University of Arizona´s GeoPolitical Web project, which aims to develop a research framework and the associated computational components for collecting and analyzing large-scale, longitudinal social media contents from many at-risk regions in the world. The following two essays by distinguished experts in the field present a unique, innovative research framework, computational methods, and selected results and examples.
