Abstract
In the computer industry, Gene Amdahl has done the impossible. He has taken on the giant IBM organisation and succeeded. Following a disagreement with IBM management, he set up the Amdahl Corporation in 1970 and has seen its sales of large mainframe IBM compatible computers rocket from virtually zero in 1976 to $320 million in 1978.
