Innumeracy

In front of me lie two volumes, Whewell´s `Mechanics¿ published in 1833, and the Cambridge University Calendar for 1834: although so old, they have a considerable bearing on what is wrong with British industry today, since they show how we used to produce educated men until 1848, that revolutionary year in Europe. In that year, a tragedy occurred that has ruined English education, and is now starting to ruin Scottish education too.
