Abstract :
It is now 21 years since the static inverter drive first found use in industry. Inverters for a.c. motor drives were among the earliest application of power thyristors along with static d.c. drives. Although the d.c. drive convertor gained rapid prominence as an industrial drive, the static variable-frequency inverter has been much slower to gain the same ready acceptance
