Abstract :
The electrical system on Zanzibar is operated by the State Fuel & Power Corporation (SFPC) which has relied on diesel-electric generation for its power supplies. The coastal grid on Tanzania, operated by the Tanzanian Electric Supply Company (Tanesco), receives the bulk of its power from the hydroelectric power station at Kidatu, 350 km from the capital, Dar-es-Salaam. The rising cost of fuel made it worthwhile considering an interconnection between the two systems
