Abstract :
Exactly 110 years after it was given a legal monopoly of telecommunication operation in the UK, the Post Office is now facing what many believe will be its biggest challenge: reconstructing the national telecommunication network to provide the new communication services on which Britain´s success in the coming `Information age¿ will critically depend. How is the Post Office planning to meet the challenge of the new Information technology? And how do its many critics regard its chances of success?
