Abstract :
Imagine a world with no electricity. We only have to go back a little more than 100 years to a time when even the most industrialized countries were still in their infancy in industrial applications of electrical technologies. At the beginning of the 20th century, power generation involved water wheels, windmills, and steam engines. Power distribution was localized and consisted of mechanical belts and pulleys. Lighting technology consisted of candles, oil, gas, and natural sunlight.
