  • Abstract
    In 1977 a design exercise was started to determine the cable requirements for optical-fibre submerged systems. This article describes the cable design that was developed for a 10 km trial system used to monitor the long term stability of transmission characteristics of the optical path in the marine environment. Several trial lengths of cable have been manufactured and results are presented of the optical and mechanical performance of the cable
