Abstract :
In this study, a radome is proposed to increase the boresight gain, the return-loss bandwidth, and the flat-gain bandwidth of a microstrip patch antenna. The radome consists of a pair of parallel strips etched on the bottom of a dielectric material. The 10 dB return-loss bandwidth is tuned by adjusting the length of each strip and the spacing between them. One unique advantage of the design is that both the return-loss and the flat-gain bandwidths can be optimized with an air thickness of 0.125 λ between the radome and the patch.
