Abstract
It is shown that analog log compression of a band-limited signal prior to A/D conversion can be used to compress a wide dynamic range signal and recover a sampled representation the original signal by inverse log compression of the log-compressed samples without introducing aliasing error. The accuracy of the overall companding function has been expressed analytically in closed form as an SNR measure of the decompressed sample sequence that characterizes the original (i.e. unprocessed) signal. A numerical example is given.
