Abstract :
The transient response of a sampling oscillographic system with linear grating diodes excited by a theoretical step-like pulse possessing overshoot is analyzed. Expressions for the transient function h(t̅) of the excited system, the first 0-100-percent transition duration of the first crossing of the final value (100-percent) level t̅T, and the overshoot δ̅ are derived. It is shown that the relationship between the overshoot δ̅ of the excited system response and the overshoot δ of the steplike input pulse is δ̅=nδ2. An example of the response has been generated by computer simulation, and the overshoot relation has been compared to experimental data. The results of this work are useful in estimating the effects of overshoot in the calibration of sampling oscilloscopes and high-speed pulses.
