Lightning strokes in field and laboratory — II

THE LIGHTNING-STROKE generator has made possible the investigation of lightning-stroke phenomena in the laboratory.^1,2 This paper deals with the fundamental aspect of the problem, particularly with the characteristics of the lightning-stroke channel. The data and findings here presented reveal further the nature of the channel core and of the resulting column.³ Field observations are also indicated for comparison, to enhance the value of the laboratory investigation.
