Abstract :
There are several methods available to ground the neutrals of industrial power systems. One of these methods, high-resistance grounding, was first applied in 1936 to solve a safety problem associated with operating large portable equipment used in open-pit mines. Today, grounding of most land-based power distribution circuits is mandated by codes and regulations. Here, the author presents an historical overview of the protection of open cast mining power system equipment
