Abstract :
Automatic image segmentation by edge detection techniques often involves recursive operations that incorporate redundant computations. Two methods for implementation of a fast Sobel operator are proposed, which eliminate a considerable amount of redundancy at the expense of increased storage capacity. Comparisons between the standard method and the proposed fast methods are included.
