Abstract :
A number of hypotheses about the conditions under which people perceive subregions in blob shapes are studied and found wanting. A new approach to blob segmentation is described and compared to other methods. The new approach is based on internal concavity metrics, which are defined over the Blum transform (augmented Voronoi diagram) of such shapes. The behavior of an internal concavity model is examined.
