An analysis of research institutional roles in developing countries

Five distinct roles have been identified for research institutions in a representative developing country. The analysis is based on a framework which combines a social research and development model with a social systems engineering model. The result suggests a complementarity of roles to be played by universities, research centers, and government authorities.
