Abstract :
The advantages of using a modular approach for the model development of large-scale dynamic systems are discussed. Four modularization criteria are presented. When these criteria are combined in the definition of the borders of the system´s modules, the result will be a set of well-designed, easily maintainable modules with a low level of coupling between them. Even though these ideas originated during the development of a power plant model for an operator training simulator, they are applicable to a wide range of large-scale dynamic system models.
