Critical Elements [Guest Editorial]

The theme for this issue is distribution management systems (DMSs). The power distribution system is a critical element of the developing smart grid as it is the interface between widespread distributed resources (distributed generation, distributed renewable resources, distributed storage, demand response, active customer loads, electric vehicle charging and discharging) and the entire power grid.
