Abstract :
During the few days immediately after the launch of the Telstar satellite on the 10th July 1962, millions of television viewers in the United Kingdom were able to observe an experiment that may well have as great an impact on longdistance communication as the historic transatlantic radio transmission made by Marconi in 1901.
