Abstract
The building of Britain´s first PWR power station began in April 1987 at Sizewell. The project was subject to the closest public scrutiny on its design, safety and economical aspects. The 340-day Public Inquiry was the longest ever held in the UK. The author reports on a conference held in September 1989 which discussed progress to date. The design of the power station is discussed, and in particular the safety aspects. The equipment, and control and instrumentation are also discussed
