Abstract
Generators of 900 MW and above are required to match the unit outputs of the largest nuclear and fossil fired steam generators. Where steam and vacuum conditions permit, full speed, 3000 rev/min units are the most economic. In 1985 two 985 MW, 1158 MVA, 3000 rev/min generators were ordered from GEC Turbine Generators at Stafford for the Daya Bay nuclear power station in the Peoples Republic of China. The first of these generators is complete and has undergone factory tests before being shipped to site. The author discusses the design of the generators and gives a general description of them. The author then discusses in detail the stator and rotor design. The excitation systems, auxiliary systems and testing are also discussed
