Abstract :
Horn antennas with an elliptical beam and low cross polarization are discussed. A new class of elliptical-beamshape horns has been investigated. The horns are based on the dielectric core approach, using a dielectric core inside a smooth-walled horn. Horns with rectangular as well as elliptical cross sections have been studied. Experiments show that they have considerably larger cross-polar bandwidth than that obtained from corrugated horns with an elliptical beam. They are also potentially much cheaper to manufacture
