Abstract :
A tunable laser monolithically integrated with an optical waveguide tunable filter, named a “lateral-grating-assisted lateral codirectional coupler” (LGLC) filter, was fabricated and demonstrated. The LGLC filter has medium wavelength selectivity characteristics and operates over a 100-nm-wide wavelength range at 60-mA injection current. A tunable laser was also fabricated and its wavelength characteristic of sidemode suppression ration (SMSR) of over 35 dB at C-band wavelength range was demonstrated.
