Abstract :
The authors present an approach and report results indicating the possibility of the compatible enhancement of terrestrial PAL TV transmissions towards high definition. They suggest how multi-dimensional adaptive digital filtering could bring this about but draw attention to the amount of research and technological development needed before a service would be viable.
