The bridge is 42.5km in length, and links the port city of Qingdao with its Huangdao suburb and Hongdao Island, on the other side of the bay. Its construction employed at least 10,000 people, and used 450,000 tons of steel and 2.3 million cubic metres of concrete. The Jiaozhou Bay Bridge was designed by the state-owned Shandong Gaosu Group. It opened on the same day as the Qing-Huang Tunnel to its south.
